About

Hi, I’m Glenn. I’m a happily married thirty-something year old living in Louisiana. When my wife Courtney and I made the decision a few years ago to adopt our first child, we had no idea what challenges lay ahead for us. Just trying to find the right adoption agency or professional turned out to be a huge challenge and hassle. On top of that, there were many things we were uncertain about. How do we know who to trust? How are we going to pay for this? How long are we going to have to wait to bring a baby home?

These struggles, fears, and doubts delayed our decision for years.

Thankfully, we did eventually find a good adoption attorney in our area, and we are now moving forward with our adoption journey. Things are falling into place for us, but it hasn’t been an easy road getting here. (Read more about the beginning of our adoption journey here.)

I’ve found that there is a lot of good information on the internet about adoption, but I wanted to create the kind of resource that I wish I could have had when we were starting our adoption journey. This is why I started Adoption Geek.

Adoption Geek is all about empowering you to grow your family through adoption.

I believe that with the right tools, resources, and advice, adoption IS possible for most people. I also believe that every child deserves a loving family. My goal is to help you bring home that very deserving child by sharing what I’ve learned in our adoption journey as it happens.

Whether you are considering adoption or going through it for the first time, or you have already adopted and just want to learn more, I hope that Adoption Geek can be beneficial to you.

This site isn’t just about empowering you; it’s about us empowering each other. We are all in this journey together. All of us who are going through the emotional roller coaster ride that is adoption, we need to lean on each other. I hope that in some small way, this website can help us to do just that.

So why should you listen to me?

I’ll be completely honest with you, I am not what you would consider an adoption “expert.” I don’t work in the adoption field and have no formal training in adoption. The only experience I have is that my wife and I are currently going through our first adoption.

So what qualifies me to teach you about adoption? I don’t know, but I do know that I am very passionate about the subject. I have spent countless hours reading about it and talking about it with other experts and adoptive parents. Having experienced the pain and frustration of dealing with infertility and just trying to get started adopting, I know firsthand how overwhelming and frustrating the process can be. If you are going through adoption for the first time, then you can probably relate. That is why I want to help you in any way that I can.

There are many professionals out there with more knowledge and experience than I have, and I encourage you to listen to them as well. But I hope that I can provide my own unique perspective as a first-time adopter. As my wife and I continue to go through this process, we will learn more and share what we’ve learned along the way. We hope to learn from you as well.

Best of all, you’ll get to join us on this incredible journey to parenthood and experience our pains and joys along with us. It’ll be one heck of a ride!

Why “Adoption Geek”?

I know I’m going to get asked about the title a million times, so I figure I should explain it here. 🙂

I really want this website to stand out from all the other adoption websites out there. I think the best way for me to do that is to pour a lot of my personality into it. I’ve always been a bit of a geek (Courtney and I both are), and I feel that Adoption Geek is the perfect name because it tells you what this website is about, but also tells you a little about ourselves.

So not only can you expect me to occasionally throw in a geeky reference at random, but I hope to provide a few helpful geeky tips, like how to use social media or other online tools and resources to help you in your adoption journey. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be a geek to enjoy this site. It just helps a little. 😉
